With the future of the Library now in the hands of the community, we need to raise funds in order to manage and maintain an old and important listed building which continues to deliver library and community services. Although support will come from Lewisham Libraries through their community libraries team, there will be no financial support for managing and maintaining the library and its building.

The upstairs spaces in the Library have been under-utilised in the past but in order to generate an income for the library we are letting the majority of disused space to selected permanent tenants as offices and deskspace. There will also be some ground floor deskspace on offer due to the discontinued CD and DVD lending, which is not being handed over by Lewisham Council, and events space being transferred to the Community Studio at neighboring Louise House.

There should be little or no impact of this new function of the building on its existing library services and the space will be managed and administered by V22 who currently run another 5 such buildings across London.

This offers a unique opportunity to have workspace in a beautiful Grade II listed building and to support the community of South East London to keep alive our library services. We welcome creatives, freelancers, social enterprises and entrepreneurs to get in touch: email deskspace@v22london.com or complete our Expression of Interest form.

V22 is an art organisation, with a shared ownership structure, which specialises in the collection of contemporary art, the production of exhibitions, events and educational initiatives, and the provision of artists’ studios, artisans’ workshops and workspace for creatives at affordable rates.
